Even more ways you can get help while you wait for your home care funding
Access the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
Get entry-level support like cleaning, meals, and transport while staying on the Home Care Package waitlist.
Use Private Home Care Services
If CHSP doesn’t cover your needs, some people opt for private care which can be a short-term solution while waiting for a government-funded package, especially when support is urgently needed.
Research Home Care Providers
Once you've been assigned a package, you only have 56 days to choose a provider. Not sure how to choose? Read our handy factsheet.
Need more support than you used to?
Is it time to get reassessed for home care funding?
If you're on the waitlist for funding and find that your needs have changed, you can look into getting a reassessment.
A reassessment could help you get more support and funding.
Don't worry, you won't lose your spot.
Health changes
Hospital visits, falls, or new conditions can mean it's time for more support like wound care, medication help, or physiotherapy.
Less mobility
Struggling to move around, get up, or get out? It could be a sign you need assistive equipment or home modifications.
Increased reliance on others
If you’re leaning on family, neighbours, or friends more often, it might be time to formalise that help with extra care hours.
Cognitive concerns
Forgetfulness or confusion can trigger access to dementia-specific support and regular welfare checks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get any help while I’m waiting?
Yes. Even while you’re on the home care funding waitlist, you can access other support like CHSP, or download our local guide to access free and discounted care.
What does my priority level mean?
Can I speed up the process if my needs change?
Yes. If your health or care situation becomes more urgent, you can request a priority review through My Aged Care. A new assessment can elevate your priority level, potentially moving you ahead in the queue. We can help you with this.
What happens if my situation gets worse before I get my funding?
If your circumstances change—for example, a fall or loss of support—you can contact My Aged Care and request a reassessment. This might result in a higher priority rating or even a higher funding level if needed.
Will someone contact me when my funding is ready?
Yes. My Aged Care will issue a “Get Ready” letter approximately three months before your package is funded. It's essential to respond quickly—once assigned, you typically have 56 days to sign the Home Care Agreement (with an extra 28 days possible on request).
